Atec - Multibeam sonar

Atec multibeam sonar is designed for high resolution seabed survey. The compact sonar, with integrated transceiver and sound vlocity sensor connects directly to Olex via Ethernet, and is automatically controlled without any need for manual operation.

The sonar uses broadband technology for increased range and accuracy. With its high ping rate and wide maximum swath coverage of 180 degrees, Atec is especially effective in shallow water survey. Atec comes in two models with nominal operation frequencies of respectively 400 and 200 kHz, and ranges of 200 and 500 meters.

When Olex is amended with the ATEC software module, Olex becomes the sonar's top-end software, which allows it to automatically determine various parameters such as pulse length, bandwidth, and more. The sonar is continuously adjusted to provide maximum ping rate and best resolution, based on the varying water depth. Atec 400 can also be manually controlled by the user, if more fine tuning is desired.

Through our dealers, we offer a complete survey system consisting of Olex, sonar, and different solutions for position, attitude and sound velocity. One can for instance choose Spatial and auto sound speed as a mid-range solution, or RTK-GPS, Kongsberg MRU and Valeport SVP for best results. The collected seabed data can be exported as complete Olex 3D models, as text files for import to other GIS or as screenshots.

Hardness surveyed with Atec 400 and 200

Hardness with Atec-400, surveyed in 2016, south of Vega in northern Norway. Depth down to 200 meter.
Same area using Atec-200, surveyed in 2018. There are some sound speed errors, which is not effecting the hardness.
Detail with Atec 400. Soft seafloor with hard craters, and some rocks at the top of the image. Depth is around 100 meter.
Same detail with Atec-200. The same formations as with Atec-400, altough absolute hardness slightly varies. Different frequency probably give different response, but variations are small. The two cliff formations seem a little less detailed, probably because Atec 400 is twice as sharp as the 200.
Deeper area surveyed with Atec-200. The depth in the fjord reaches down to 523 meter. Notice how the seabed is harder at the southern parts, even if the depths are the same.
Same section, Atec 200 bathymetry only. Sharpness is significantly better than Wassp-80.
